the corpse vanishes

Another Saturday, another Bela Lugosi classic.

This time, in The Corpse Vanishes, he's a mad doctor who drugs brides at the altar with gifts of poisoned orchids. Then when they are believed dead, he steals the bodies. It's all done in the name of science. He is using the bodily fluids of these young women to keep his own aging wife alive.

It's a creepy little movie and would have been creepier still, if not for the character of the eager "girl reporter" who, as society columnist, covered the weddings of the dead brides. She figures out the poisoned orchid angle, tracks the mad doctor to his home/laboratory and sets a trap to catch him. No sign of the police during all of this. They disappeared after the second body went missing.
