I know my limits. I've learned them the hard way. Through countless Halloween seasons of futilely attempting to duplicate pictures of cakes from magazines. No matter how hard I tried, they never looked . . . quite right. But all that is behind me now. Bitter disappointment has cured me of any further culinary aspirations. Now, when I look at a magazine photo of a creative cake, I no longer think, "I'll try that. It looks simple enough." Instead, I simply think, "Clever idea." And leave it at that.
